Self-Development Workshops for Students

WHEN Aug 18–20 and Oct 13, 2013

WHERE Sri Aurobindo Society, Society House, Puducherry

On August 18–20 and October 13, 2013, two self-development workshops were held this year for the students of the age group 14–16 from Bombay International School, Mumbai.

When the students came in August they had two sessions at the Society House. The first one was by Harvinder on observation and sensitivity. She sent the students out into the Society House garden to observe any one plant and write about it with an inner awareness and sensitivity. The exercise sharpened the senses and also encouraged creative perception. They also had another activity wherein one of the students was blindfolded and was made to identify his friends by touching the faces of those who lay down in a circle.

The next session was by Amir from Auroville. It was on generating complete sensory awareness through one’s body. It involved trust in which the participant had to relax muscle by muscle with the help of a partner. It was a deeply relaxing session of two hours.

When they came again in October 2013, apart from the others, the students had one session of Yogasanas for two hours facilitated by Anahita, a school teacher who has been coordinating the visit of the students for several years.
