Integral Education Workshop on Preparatory Theatre in Creative Teaching

Date: Sep 1–2, 2015
Place: Sunbeam School, Varanasi

A hundred and eighty teachers from Sunbeam Group of Schools, Varanasi, explored themselves as artistic facilitators at an Integral Education Workshop making use of Preparatory Theatre in Creative Teaching. In this workshop, teachers examined the current practice of education limited to delivering a set syllabus and their role as teachers.

Once they were introduced to the beauty and benefits of creative teaching (especially theatre arts), they shed all their inhibitions and brought their mental and physical faculties into play to its full potential. Through transition acts of Integral Theatre, they experienced the possibility of innumerable creative approaches to everyday classroom sessions. The workshop culminated with an enriching experience of collective powers of true communion.

This was conducted by Ravi Shanker, an ardent learner, educator, stage & voice actor, and Creative Director—Theatre in Integral Education of India Council for Integral Education (ICIE, an initiative of Sri Aurobindo Society).

Feedback:

“Thank you so much for agreeing to come to us at such a short notice. The workshop was a great learning experience for delving deeper into our inner conscience and to facilitate the same with children in a classroom. It was learning in a fun-filled way and a great exercise in shedding inhibitions. I positively want more of this for myself and the team. Thank you once again.” — Amrita Burman, Deputy Director, Sunbeam Group of Schools, Varanasi

“Just wanted to share that I got a wonderful feedback from my teachers about your workshop yesterday at Sunbeam Lahartara. I myself really found it quite fruitful. Keep the good work going! — Richa Sharma, Vice Principal, Sunbeam Group of Schools, Varanasi
