Integral Education Workshop for Pre-primary Teachers and Students

 Date: Nov 2–6, 2015
Place: Auro Mirra International School, Bengaluru

The workshop was spread over 11 sessions with 110 children of different age groups between 5 and 12. Besides, there were two sessions organized especially for the teachers which were focused on how to incorporate craft in their teaching to help children explore their various faculties. The teachers also learnt how they could involve children creatively in different craft activities to enhance their creative faculties.

The craft workshop was conducted by Kiran, an art in education enthusiast, artist and resource facilitator—Art & Crafts in Integral Education of ICIE (an initiative of Sri Aurobindo Society, based on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother).

FEEDBACK

We were very lucky to have Ms Kiran for the second time . . . we learnt several techniques like folding a paper in a criss cross way and creating spring dolls and mice. This workshop was really excellent and interesting and we quite enjoyed making a fish aquarium. I am going to create spring dolls, mice and aquariums along with the children in the nursery classes. The art and craft sessions were very informative and educative in which we learnt some valuable tips and techniques on how to make use of ordinary objects around us such dried leaves, seeds and saw dust to create something wonderful. This activity would really help the children to improve their fine motor skills and creativity. — Selby, Teacher

The art and craft workshop with Kiran Didi was a great help as it generated a lot of ideas on what can be done with our little ones. Also, the flowers she taught us how to create were beautiful and elegant and we can use them as decoration. She is full of ideas and shares a lot of tips on how to improvise on ideas we have… and all her tips are doable. We thank Kiran Didi and look forward to her taking these sessions again. —  Sheetal, Teacher

The art and craft workshop with Kiran Didi was very interesting as she had novel ideas to share with us. Strips of paper were used by her to create springy man and springy mouse and the aquarium made by making slits on a plain paper was stunningly beautiful. These simple art and craft techniques taught by didi would be of immense help when taking up this subject with the children. —  Sharmen, Teacher
