Workshops on Art & Craft for Pre-Primary Teachers and Children

Date: Aug 24–25, 2015
Place: Auro Mirra International School, Bengaluru

Workshop for Teachers

A workshop on Integral Education through Art and Craft was conducted for 10 pre-primary teachers of Auro Mirra International School (AMIS), Bengaluru, on August 25, 2015. The objective of the workshop was to jointly explore and learn to integrate multiple ways of using Art and Craft for the development of different aspects of a child. In this Workshop at AMIS, teachers experimented and discovered many activities with papers, leaves, designer punches and pebbles. They learnt activities especially for the development of fine motor skills, focus, concentration, imagination, creativity, hand–eye coordination, etc. Teachers learned how to use dry leaves and sticks for several activities such as leaf rubbing, painting, crushing, tracing, creating sceneries and making images with leaf prints. They also explored many activities with paper folding, with hand prints (wreath making, tree making and creating images with a little touch of crayon). Designing pop-up cards and making three-dimensional (3D) paper animals were also a part of the Workshop.

Workshop for Children

Two days of craft workshop was also held at AMIS with pre-primary children on August 24–25, 2015. Five sessions of the workshop with 100 children were organized for different age groups between 5 and 8 years. The aim of the workshop was to focus on fine motor skills, concentration, creativity and appreciation of beauty and colour in children.

Children enthusiastically participated in flower photo frame, paper basket, lampshades, crust paper painting and tissue flower-making. The children enjoyed their sessions thoroughly and had a lot of fun playing with paper and other materials.

These workshops were conducted by Kiran—an art-in-education enthusiast, artist, and Resource Facilitator (Arts & Crafts) in Integral Education of India Council for Integral Education (ICIE, an initiative of Sri Aurobindo Society).
